Reckless Intensive

Saturdays 3:15-6:15

Get familiar with the Reckless approach to improv. This is a course designed to help performers build upon prior improv training. It sets out to create a bedrock foundation for you as a self-reliant, team-playing, fun-chasing improvisor. This is for experienced improvisors that want a refreshing new slant on the way they play. Create tension, take action, and explore characterization through wants, spine, and choice. Learn to advance and expand your ideas and weave them into rewarding scenes and narratives with pronounced games.

Reckless Ensemble
Wednesdays 7-10pm

*Must have taken Reckless Intensive as a pre-requisite to this course.
Celebrate team play while boosting your confidence as a solo performer. Agreement and attack are essential to the Reckless method. Endorse and cosign each other's moves with immediate attack, be fearless and reactionary. Get on your toes, out of your head and play Reckless. Explore various forms such as the Monoscene, Harold, and Organic Montage. Juggle multiple patterns while holding true to your point of view and make rich scenic choices that awaken your sense of play and togetherness.

A note from Artistic Director, Christian Capozzoli: I want to take a second and thank everyone who auditioned last week. This community is brimming with so many ridiculously talented people and I know there were more of you than there were spots. I appreciate how everyone buoyed each other in their auditions, cosigned one another's ideas and reveled ensemble. It was inspiring to see such selfless play in an audition room and made my job so much harder. Thank you.

All teams will perform at their first show on July 14th and perform on rotation after that. Check out our show calendar each week to see who will be performing.

COME BE RECKLESS this week - we've got Christian Capozzoli's approach to INSTANT GAME as well as a 4Track crash course!

INSTANT GAME: 2 different workshops available!

Building strong characters starts the moment your foot hits the floor, not the moment you start "thinking." This workshop will focus on the organic unfolding of a character based on that first step. More being... less thinking! Hone your ability to identify the game of a scene and blow it out to the Nth degree. Give your gameplay the torque it needs and take either of these workshops!

Are you in town for only a short time? Or a New Yorker who wants to go elbows deep in improv? Maybe you can't think of a better use for vacation days than getting sweaty and silly with a bunch of strangers. In only 3 days you could complete the 8-week Reckless Intensive and dive head-first into NYC's newest improv community!

This is a course designed to help performers build upon prior improv training. It sets out to create a bedrock foundation for you as a self reliant, team-playing, fun-chasing improviser. This is for improvisers that want a refreshing new slant on the way they play, or for someone wanting to return to the basics. Create tension, take action, and explore characterization through wants, and spine and choice. Learn to advance and expand your ideas and weave them into rewarding scenes and narratives, with pronounced games.

Our students at this level have significant improv experience: 3 Levels at any NY improv theatre, classes at Second City or Groundlings, performing at IO.
